Mido set for management return with former club Ismaily

Ahmed Hossam is on the verge of a return to management with former club Ismaily as a replacement for Juan Carlos Garrido.

Following a woeful start to the season, Ismaily had parted ways with Spanish manager Garrido after just five games in charge.

Several managers were linked with the vacant position over the past two weeks, but it was only revealed on Monday that the replacement would be Ahmed Hossam Mido.

The former Spurs striker has been away from management since January 2020 after a six-months unsuccessful stint with then-Premier League side Misr El-Makkasa.

However, Mido had a very successful start to his managerial career back in 2014 when he became the youngest Egyptian manager to win a trophy when he led to the Cup title over Smouha.

Mido then had managerial spells with Ismaily, Wadi Degla, and Saudi outfit Al-Wehda while also having an advisor role at .

After almost three years without a managerial job, Mido has finally decided to make a return back through Ismaily as per club president Yehia El-Komy.

“I didn't hesitate at all to accept Ismaily's offer. When I was offered the role, I agreed,” Mido said in the early hours of Tuesday.

Mido had led Ismaily between July to December 2015 in nine games, winning five games and losing just two, but was forced to leave following a live row with club captain and legend .

A former player for the likes of Tottenham, AS Roma, Ajan, and West Ham, Mido will hope to use his vast experience to put Ismaily back on the right track.

Once regarded as one of Africa's biggest clubs, Ismaily have been suffering for several years now, having not finished above seventh for the past four seasons.

Last season, Ismaily survived relegation by just two points, a fate they are in danger of this season as well.

After nine rounds, Ismaily sit in the relegation zone with just six points, having won just one game.

Their next game will see them come up against Mido's boyhood club and second-placed Zamalek in Cairo on Thursday, December 29.
