Pyramids beat Zamalek to reach Egypt Cup final

FC have secured their spot in the 2022 Egypt Cup final after beating defending champions Zamalek on penalties.

The semi-finals of the Egypt Cup have resumed, two months after the quarter-finals were played back in November.

Zamalek, who beat 1-0 in the previous round came up against Pyramids FC, who beat Bank Al with the same result.

Looking to get back on track following a recent dry spell, Zamalek entered the game with full power and dominated the early minutes of the game.

Their efforts were awarded when Hossam Abdelmaguid gave them the lead after just six minutes with a powerful header from 's corner.

Five minutes later, the good kept on coming for the Whites as Ali Gabr was shown a straight red card as he brought down Seifeddine Jaziri on his way to the goal.

However, Zamalek failed to kill off the tie and Pyramids managed to take the one-goal deficit into the half-time break, hoping to turn things around in the second-half.

And turn things around they did as only ten minutes into the second period, Walid El-Karti equalised the scoreline from close range, tapping in Ramadan Sobhi's low cross.

Looking for a response, Zamalek dominated the game in terms of possession, but without creating any real chances as the game headed into extra-time.

The extra 30 minutes didn't witness much, with the only real chance coming to Zamalek when Hossam Abdelmaguid thought he scored the winner in the dying moments, but was denied with a brilliant save from Ahmed El-Shennawy.

As the game went to penalties, Ahmed Sayed Zizo stepped up first, but his panenka effort was parried away by El-Shennawy, before both teams scored all their kicks until the fifth round.

Ahmed El-Shennawy continued his man-of-the-match performance and this time saved from skipper Shikabala to send Pyramids through to the Egypt Cup final.

This will mark Pyramids' second appearance in the Egypt Cup final after the 2019 version, in which they lost 3-0 to Zamalek.

Their opponent will be one of Al Ahly or Smouha, who will clash against each other on Tuesday, with the final scheduled to be played on February 3.
