Trabzonspor condemn ‘inhumane’ act from Fenerbahçe player towards Trezeguet
turkish club trabzonspor has condemned the disgusting behaviour of Samet Akaydin after he was seen spitting at Mahmoud Trezeguet.
Trezeguet came off the bench as Fenerbahce beat Trabzonspor 3-1 on Thursday night in matchday 34 of the turkish super lig.
With the scoreline at 3-0, Trezeguet scored for Trabzonspor in the 80th minute to make it 3-1 and went to prostrate as Muslim players normally do as part of their goal celebration.
However, Fenerbahçe defender Samet Akaydin was seen spitting at Trezeguet while prostrating, which was condemned by Trabzonspor.
“This is a disgrace, it is disgusting!,” A statement from Trabzonspor read.
“We strongly condemn the inhumane act against our football player Mahmoud Trezeguet during the match we played against Fenerbahçe on May 18, 2023.
“It is disgraceful and disgusting that Fenerbahçe player Samet Akaydın spat towards our player as he was going into prostration after celebrating a goal.
“We expect all football stakeholders, especially Fenerbahçe Sports Club and the Turkish Football Federation, to react to Samet Akaydın's actions and take immediate action.
“We call upon the entire sports community to come together to rebuild sports on the basis of friendship, love, and respect, to reject such aggression and inhumane acts, and to preserve the true values of football.”
